Or something. I should mention I'm doing all of this on a tight budget.

Monday
Go to work
Go to Nagoya to get headshots done for Audition. (2 hours there, 2 hours back)

Tuesday
Go to work
Finish calendar piece.
Write up resume

Wednesday
Go to work
HOPEFULLY receive headshots in the mail. If not, buy ink for printer and half ass them myself.
Finish calendar preview

Thursday
Go to Australia

Friday
Arrive in Australia
Find a hotel

Saturday
Audition

Sunday
Return to Japan

Monday
Arrive in Japan
Go to work, directly from airport

In between all that, I'm cleaning, and getting ready for my triumphant return to America.

I am absolutely insane.

Also: A little afraid the Australians are going to hate me for being an American. o.o

My list doesn't look as impressive as ladynorbert's

Can't have nice things

So. New laptop arrived. I pulled her out of the box, and named her "Baby" on account of her ITTY BITTY SIZE. She is adorable and cute in all ways.

Except one.

In that she doesn't work.

I am, as they say, less than amused. She is a Netbook. She's come equipped with a built in Web cam, and her entire purpose in life is to provide an easily portable connection to the webzorz.

She does not.

I don't know if it's because I'm on the Japanese webs or what, but what should have been as easy as "Plug in cable and surf net" has become an exercise in not throwing the damn thing across the room and screaming.

The entire point of me BUYING this laptop and having it laboriously sent to me (LOVE YOU, SMOOGIE) was so that I could have a working laptop before I came home from Christmas.

HahahaNo. I don't get this.

So now I have one laptop that will connect to the internet, but due to a fried video card, has all the graphic capibilities of a flip book. And I have one laptop that functions in all ways except it won't connect to the internet.

Oh. Also: play DVDs or Scan. Because both require me to "connect to the internet" to download the correct codec to do so.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFfffffffffffffff-

I have the depression from being in stupid Japan during Thanksgiving. Bleh.

Also: The auditions for HongKong Disney end on the 13- the day after I go home to Amurika. the Audition on the 13th? Oh yeah. That's in Hong Kong. You know. The place I actually have a conceivable hope of GETTING to.

There is an audition on the 5th that I could CONCEIVABLY get to, in Melbourne. I'm trying to convince myself that I should not do this, but it's depressing the hell out of me. Because I get the feeling that this might be the last opportunity to audition for Hong Kong Disney for quiiiiite a while. And I've decided that Hong Kong Disney would be just as acceptable as Tokyo Disney. Really, ANY Disney is acceptable, but these are the ones I have a .00001% chance of actually getting hired at. As opposed to the others, where I have NO chance.

Except Paris Disney. I have noooo interest in that. Srsly.

Gifts from HAM

I get more packages on Thursday than any other day. I do not know why. Just that this seems to be the case.

ANYWHO.

Yesterday, I received a notification that the postoffice had a package waiting for me. And I was gleeful, for, I have been expecting my new laptop to arrive any day now. I still haven't picked it up (three more hours until I can do that! *squeee*), but I was highly amused upon reading the slip.

They had filled out the "To" portion just fine. However, they seem to have gotten a bit confused on the "From" part, once again.

According to the postoffice, this box is From: HAM

Now I understand where they could be getting this, between the place of origin, and the senders last name, but still: I am amused.

I think I will name the new laptop Bill :3

i r hippo crit

Sooooooooo one of my sorta-friends (I like to consider us as "Likeable aquantances- we don't comment or talk much, but we both like eachother's work) on DA is running a contest. An OC contest.

Now normally, I stay the HELL away from OC's, the same way I avoid walking through spiderwebs. It just doesn't end plesently. But... these are Pokemon OCs.

Now, providing you're not creating an OC that is ZOMG ONE OF THE TWIN CHILDREN OF JESSIE AND JAMES or ZOMG TTLY OTP WIF MISTY or whatever... I'm sort of... not offended by Pokemon OCs.

It's a video game. A video game in which you get to NAME your character. Not only does this encourage OCs, it encourages Self Insert. Which, really- MOST video games do.

So yeah. I'm going to enter. The only trouble is- WHO to enter. Every Pokemon game I play, I play a different version of... me. >.> But the teams are different! For example- my very first time through Pokemon, WAY back in the day, I was a fire trainer. AND ONLY FIRE. I was the MASTER of Fire pokemon.

Which... didn't really work out that well for me, as Fire pokemon have SO MANY WEAKNESSES. But I still love them the most.

Another one of my games, I was an Eevee trainer. I had one of all the evolutions on my team. That was pretty cool.

Another game, I built my team around mimicing the Greek/Roman panthion, with all my pokemon named after Green/Roman Gods and Godesses.

I'm only alowd one entry though. So I am a bit torn.

I have not done Pokemon fanart in FOREVERZ. Wuagh. ITS LIKE BEING IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGAIN.

In other, unrelated news, I'm trying to make a basic ranking table so I can assign stats to some characters. Because I'm weird.

When I've got numbers to go off of, it's easy to find what scale to put things on, but when you're going all arbitrary like.... Bleh. Things are hard 9.9

Halp?

Mind

0~ No brain activity. Nonsentient plants or machines.

1~

2~

3~ Lowest human intelligence. Infants, trained animals.

4~

5~ Average human inteligence

6~

7~ Sherlock Holmes

8~

9~

10~ Superhuman intelligence

Strength

0~ Incapable of movement, exceptign autonomic reflexes such as breathing or blinking

1~

2~

3~ Lowest human strength.

This update brought to you by my DICK TEACHER who enjoys glaring at me from across the English Department room, and cancled our lesson for this period without telling me. THANKS, DICK. From now on, I'm calling him Richard. >.<

I went to a boring and a game center.
The score in the boring was 105.
We spent two hours pleasantly. I want to go again.

==================================================

I went to the Toyota Stadium
My famiry big soccer fan
Do you know "Nagoya Guranpas"??
It is good a team <3 My relative bilong to gurampas!!
The game ended ni a draw
I will keep on aiding \(*O*)/ <fight></fight>
I went to Tokyo and Yokohama.
Odaiba is now meeting an event.
I look big "Gundam". It is moving face!!! *I don't "Otaku"
Next, wen tto "IkeA". Do you know IkeA??
I like "IkeA"<3<3 Big big furniture store. Very cut <3 <3
"IkeA" struch 3 years ago in Japan.
I bought desk, wall clock and mirror. Happy
Thankyou, my father<3

==================================================

I watched 24 TV.
I sad. Very very sad.
I feel emotion.

I'm sleeping.
Very very very....
Bye---!!

I went to Sea
It is very beautiful.
I scream complaints!

==================================================

I went to a dentist.
I don't like a dentist.
Oh no~!

==================================================

Yesterday we put up at a hotel
We were bought many thing!

Today watching Imoto!
I feel very emotion!
GLEAT

I went to school.
Because Sadou club.
I feel so empty.

==================================================

And now: An excerpt from the paper one of my Teachers is writing;

Staying in a farmhouse has somethign to help you unwind as much as staying in a high-end hotel; which is: pleasure of working up a sweat, and breakfast after early day's work. That makes you so hungry. What makes you hungrier is veggies fresh from your garden. That excites you from head to toe as if it's dinner served at a posh three-star restaurant.
There's nothing like taking a bath and having beer after one-day farmwork. You cannot help falling asleep before the date changes. Even an unfamiliar pillow won't disturb your sleep.

In other news: I have finally found the Alice in Wonderland notebook I've been looking for. SCORE.

The Return of Why Not Meeeee

All my friends here are getting my hopes up, telling me how I'd be an awesome hire-ee for Disney. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm trying to be realistic... I KNOW how specific they are in casting. I just want to TRY.

Anyway. WHY NOT ME?
http://disneylizzi.deviantart.com/gallery/
http://bellesangel.deviantart.com/gallery/

Oooh

Was walking home from the grocery store just a bit ago, and I was looking at the sky, noting how delightfully clear it was on this chilly November night, when I saw an honest-for-goodness real live shooting star.

SO. COOL.

In other completely unrelated news, I need to not watch "Goblet of Fire" unless I really DO feel like blue-balling myself. Lord.

Happy Hallobleh....

Halloween was a little "Ehh" this year, which is TOTAL SUCK, as I put a lot of effort into my costume this year, and was SUPER EXCITED. However, I managed to catch sick at Tokyo Disney in the miserable rain. I've never been sick for Halloween before, and I did not intend on starting NOW. So I ignored the hell out of my protesting body, and set out for Nagoya ANYWAY.

I have to say- while terribly impractical, hoopskirts are an absolute kick to walk around in. They're so light and a have a little bit of bounce- it's nice. Makes me feel like one of the flower dancers from Fantasia...

I was traveling light- sweatpants and a t-shirt in my bag, my wallet, cellphone, and Zune. So I didn't really have anything to do on the 2 hour ride up, so I pulled out my cards and started shuffling, much to the delight of some of the schoolgirls on the train. Then I accidentally sprayed myself in the face with half the deck. I laughed, they laughed- it was all good.

Another thing about hoopskirts. If you wear one, no-one.... NO ONE will sit next to you on the train. It was actually kind of funny to see people head towards me, then sharply veer away when they saw what I was wearing. Also: I understand why they never caught on as a fashion in Japan. There's simply not ROOM for them. I probably should have seen this coming, but I spent most of the evening being either trapped for not being able to squeeze past others, or worrying about knocking shit over. Which was... less than fun.

So I arrive in Sakae, and I'm headed towards the party when I run into another headed that way, who's already well on his way to being drunk, and somehow manages to make me feel completely unimportant while doing nothing in particular. WTF. I have no words to describe. It was just weird and undesirable.

We make it to the party, and I find myself a seat where my skirt will hopefully be out of the way. The trouble, of course, being that I myself am then out of the way. And this seat is... not near anyone who wants to talk to me. It's across the table from Jude, but that's it, and Jude is free to wander. Sooooo that was fun. Eventually I had two or so drinks, and decided "Fuck it" I'm moving around ANYWAY, which was awkward.

Most of the photos of me from that night look a bit... off. I am usually alllllll about the camera, but my smile seems very... strange in all the photos. I'm chalking it up to being ill.

Eventually, it came time for the costume contest. Last year, I didn't even get nominated, which was sad making, as again: Effort. But also: Obscure character. This year, I thought: Even people who don't know American McGee's Alice, still know ALICE, so I should at least get to stand up and have people clap.

But. No.

This year, there was no voting by applause. Which... sort of pissed everyone off. No-one I talked to liked the results. 3rd place was a store bought ninja costume, second place was Matt as Yama-Chan, which everyone was ok with, but first place was taken by Hanako, who's costume was.... painting herself white.

Both Hanako and our store bought Ninja aren't even JETs, they're Japanese friends of someone else. And hey. I love Hanako as much as the next person, but her costume wasn't even identifiable as... something. Was she supposed to be a skeleton? A ghost? A demon? What the hell was she supposed to be, other than "white"? According to everyone I talked to, Raven, who dressed up as Chun Lee, or the Sweeney Todd/Mrs. Lovett couple, or even yours truely should have placed, duther than Hanako or the stupid Ninja. But no. No voting. No recognition. Just... it sucked. At the time, I was drunk, and didn't feel like getting in to it, because I REALIZED I was drunk, and that I WOULD have started shit if I had tried to talk about it. But. Ugh. Thanks, guys. Thanks.

Shortly after that, the party broke up, and I was already long past last train, I chilled with the others at "The Absolute Halloween" party, that was happening at 3 seperate clubs. All of which was entirely underwhelming. In the end, I felt like crap because I was sick, and I couldn't do anything in my skirt, so I told the others I was headed out. Raven said she was going to cut out too, and ended up offering me a place to stay the night, as she lived in the city, and I payed our cab fair to her place.

When we arrived, as we were walking to the building, a man unzipped his pants and tried to start jerking off at us. However, he saw us seeing HIM, so kept it in his pants, and stroked himself OVER his pants. Because. Y'know. That's TOTALLY less noticeable. He also got out his cellphone and took video or pictures. THANKS, Japan, for that.

Raven's apartment is... AMAZING. It's smaller than mine, but I want it. I. WANT. IT. It has loft. It has everything I have ever wanted in an apartment. I am NOT EVEN JOKING. I took video of it for myself, just so I can be reminded- that somewhere out there, there is MY DREAM APARTMENT. IN EXISTENCE. FOR REALZ.

We changed out of our costumes and she put out a futon for me, and we chatted over how... entirely unsatisfactory this halloween had been, before passing the hell out.

The next morning, I felt like death, from (a) my first ever hangover, and (b) my body finally saying "Fuck you, I AM sick, now die."

Needless to say the train home sucked.

I took Monday off work, because I only had one class, and then, when I woke up this morning, I realized I had the day off for a Japanese holiday, so went back to bed. So now I'm feeling a little better, but still "bleh."

Anyway. Next year, halloween? Please try for less "suck". Thanks -_-

It's a Spooky, Kookie Fright Night

Who has two thumbs and spent the weekend at Tokyo Disney?

This gal, right here.

Lauren took me to Tokyo Disney, in an attempt, I suppose, to make up for TOTALLY BLOWING ME OFF on my birthday last year. And as much as I'd really like to hold that against her, Lauren's pretty damn awesome. Plus: SHE TOOK ME TO DINSEY. You sort of have to love anyone who takes you to Disney.

I left my appartment at 7:15 Friday night, and train'ed out to Nagoya. From there, I grabed a 30 minute side train out to Chita Handa, where Lauren was waiting with me, along with a gaggle of drunk Japanese Salary Men. The Salary men weren't waiting for ME, but they were there. We had a late, 10:00 dinner at Mos Burger (who are a big beliver in keeping their chains and their food both at about 1000 degrees hotter than the sun. Then we crashed at Lauren's place, only to get up at 4 AM. Why 4 AM?

Because we had a train to catch.

We train'ed back into Nags, then caught the Shink to Tokyo. We both passed the hell out on the train because... yeah. Tired. Some near 2 hours later, we are in Tokyo baby. Yeah! We have to take they Keiyo line to get to the Diz, because you have to take the Keiyo line to reach ANYTHING. And because Tokyo's subway system was designed by a sadist on acid, you have to WALK FIFTEEN BAZILLION MILES to reach the Keiyo line from ANYTHING ELSE. But we walk, making our way through the throngs of Japanese people who we realize are ALSO all headed to Tokyo Disney, and we will be DAMNED if they reach park capacity before WE have bought our tickets.

We make it to the park about 9:30. Lauren stood in line while I grabbed us a locker to throw our travel bags into. And then.

WE WERE IN.

*cue spazmodic 5-year-old-flailing-in-a-24-year-old's-body here*

It.... zomg. WUGH. I just Love. Disney. So. Much.

First things first, we had to run to the castle and touch it. Touch iiiiiiit. It's not as impressive as the one in Florida, but then, I was in the 1st grade when I went to the one in Florida, so mebbie I'm mis-remembering. Lauren's been more recently, though, and she agreed: Not as Impressive. But still: CASTLE ZOMG. From there, we popped into the AristoCat's shop, to buy hats. Firstly, because it was cold. Secondly, because we wanted to blend in. at least 50% of the people there were wearing stupid hats or capes- because it's JAPAN and it's what you DO in Tokyo Disney. You dress up. I couldn't find a cape I liked (the only one I did sort of like, The Chechire Cat Cape, Clashed Catastrophically with my Coat), Malificent horns horns were doing nothing for my shape face, and Jafar's turban wouldn't fit over my pigtails. So I ended up with AWESOME Sandy Claws hat. I looked retarded by I LOVE IT.

Pictures will be posted as soon as I have a working computer.

Our next stop from there were Alice's tea cups. That was just... awesome. Also slightly poetic, as the LAST ride I went on in Disny Land Florida, back in 1991. Last ride there, first ride there. And oooh man. We spun the SHIT outta those cups. For anyone who doesn't know, it's sort of like a scrambler ride, only you can control how fast your individiual cup spins, and in what direction. We were by far the fastest spinning cup, and almost made ourselves puke out of spinning and laughing so hard.

After the tea cups, we were hungry so we headed for the Great American Waffle House, where we had Waffle's shaped like Micky's face. At this point, Lauren declared that she wasn't going to eat anything that wasn't shaped like something that day. This amsued me. Also, and please, get used to this general phrasing if you haven't already but ZOMG BEST WAFFLES EVER. Seriously. Japan... Japan does a lot of interesting things with food, but they don't always get it "right." These waffles were done RIGHT. I haven't had waffles like that in FOREVER.

After the awesomeness that is Waffles, we wandered up and got in line for the Haunted Mansion.

I pause here to make an observation.

Japanese people LOVE waiting in lines. Like- I don't know what it is, but there was a line. For. Everything. No matter how small, no matter how trivial, there was a line. And people would WAIT in these lines, for EVER. 40 minutes to get a tub of popcorn. The only thing they DON'T cue for is taking photos. That, my friend, is a free-for-all, and if you're non-Japanese, you better be ready to either push your way to the front, or have everyone, their 2 month old kid, and their 85 year old grandmother cut RIGHT in front of you like you don't even fucking exist. But yeah. Lines. For. EVERYTHING. Shortest wait of the entire weekend was 30 minutes.

Anyway. Back to the Haunted Mansion.

We waited about... 130 minutes for that one I think? Not that it mattered. Because, see, as it's October, and the Halloween season, even though Halloween is not any sort of an official Japanese Holliday, the entire park was decked out in Halloween decorations, the Hautned Mansion, of course, going all Nightmare Before Chrsitmas Spectacular on me.

And you can see why I was practically peeing myself the entire time. Disney + Halloween = ZOMG I NEVER WANT TO LEAVE

The wait wasn't so bad, because it was the first real wait we had, and also, I got to check out all the Halloween decorations while we waited. So many NBC pupkins... So. Happy. Love. Halloween.

The parade, "Re Villians" started while we were in line, but we couldn't really se it, just hear it. I still haven't figured out weather they mean "Re" as in "Regarding" or "Re" as in "Once Again." Regardless, the song of the parade TOTALLY ear-wormed me (and is where I got the subject line of this journal).

Eventually, we made it to the front of the line. JOY of JOY. A liiiittle bit of the ambiance was lost on me, due to the creepy voices telling me things in... Japanese. So y'know. They could be telling me they were going to cut off my hands and feet them to me, and I'd have just smiled and nodded because... No speak-y the good japanese-y. But still. Disney does things RIGHT and GOOD. So the sets alone were good enough.

The entire Haunted mansion was decked out specially with Nightmare Before Christmas animatronics and themes, and ... I just wanted to LIVE in there. For ever and ever and ever. Sally sounds weird in Japanese.

After the Haunted mansion, we walked over to Toon Town, and had lunch. Lauren broke her own rule by buying a pretzil (because the line was short), but unfortunately, the pretzils were HORRIBLE. They were filled with like- a sweet custard. Goddamn it, Japan. NOT EVERYTHIGN NEEDS SOMETHING INSIDE OF IT. We then ducked into Huey Duey and Louie's Snack bar, and had a propper lunch. Lauren had a pizza shaped like Mickey. I had a chicken sandwhich, but I forgot that in Japan, EVERYTHING gets SLATHERED in mayo, so I couldn't finish it. Oh well.

We did a little bit of shopping after that, in shoulder-to-shoulder packed stores. Then, we sat down to wait for the "Re Villians" parade to start again. We got an awesome front row seat, with a view of the castle, and then... it started to rain.

GUH

At first, it was just spitting, and sort of unplesant. Some Cast Members came by and squeegeied the street which amused me sooo much. But then it started to raaaain. And I was really glad for my hat, but was still getting cold and wet. Lauren had it worce, as Marsden had decided to come and chill with her while we were having our waffles. So she was REALLY miserable. But then the parade FINALLY started and we were happy. I was super stoked, because I could tell, from having listened to it while we were in line for the Hautned Mansion, that the Villians were going to pop out and take over the floats, and I was SO READY for this. Beeeecause I love Villians.

And then it didn't happen.

I was confused. I was SURE it was going to happen, but- nope. NO VILLIANS FOR US. So we followed the parade, all the way through to Future Land, before they finally told us to stop following the parade, and it NEVER HAPPENED. I had heard it though! Once while we were in line for the Hautned Mansion, and once again while we were sitting and waiting for the parade to get to us. We followed the parade, thinking it would happen further down the parade route, but- nope. NEVER DID.

At this point, we got in line for Space Mountain, which was a ride I had been too afraid to go on when I visited in `91. The line was EVIL and LONG and EVIL and everything was WET and MISERABLE and WAITING. Lauren and I kept gettign hit with umbrellas because Japanese people, for all their bowing and politeness, are sort of inconsiderate fucks sometimes. That was a little over 2 hours in that line, but we eventualy made it in, and got strapped in. Lauren egged me on, being all "Oooh, we're still going up, I hope we dont have a STRAIGHT DOWN DROP OVER THIS NEXT HILL!" I mean, I knew that there's nothing like that in Space Mountain, but STILL. I screamed my way through that ENTIRE RIDE. It was awesome and dizzyfying and PURE TERROR. I love/hated it. It made a sort of funny clicking noise in the middle, which made me think it was going to fly off the rails and I was going to DIE, so it was terrifying for the WRONG REASONS, but then, after I didn't die, it was cool.

At this point, it was raining and miserable out, so Lauren bought a rainjacket. I said "Fuck it. I'm already wet" and we moved on. We were headed up for the Queen of Heart's bankquet for dinner, as I had been beggign to go there ALL DAY, when we walked past a popcorn line that was not only moving pretty fast, but was selling the souvineer bucket I wanted.

There were dozens of different buckets, with different level of collectability and popularity. This was one of the haloween buckets. And while it was not THE halloween bucket I wanted (that one had a pumpkin for a top), neither of had seen where to buy that one, so we popped in line for this one (A top that had Micky and Minny designed as pumpkins). The popcorn was... flavoured like chocolate, which, much like Space mountain was both HORRIBLE and AWESOME.

With our buckets of Horror/Awesome in hand, we made our way up to the Queen of Heart's banquette, only to discover another line. There had been no line earlier, around breakfast, but seeing as how they specialized in dinner foods, and it was now dinner time, this was really no surprise. I begged and pleaded and ultimately talked Lauren into standing in line, on the basis of, "at this time, all the resturants are going to have lines." Luckily the line moved fast, and only about half of it was actually spent outside in the rain.

I LOVED the Queen of Heart's banquett Hall. Again, Disney just... decorates SO WELL. I was starving, and the food looked good, and it was so awesome in there that I got flank steak, ceasar salad, Pumpkin Mochi and choclate cake. And juice. The Japanese people were all looking at me sort like "Damn, americans eat A LOT" but I didn't care. I ate it ALL and it was FUCKING DELICIOUS. I have seriously not had such a good steak in FOREVER. The Ceasar salad had bacon in it- ACTUAL bacon, cooked proper and everything and THAT was delicious. The chocolate cake was light, airy, and SO DELICIOUS. And the Pumpkin mochi tasted like orange creamcicles some how. AND THAT WAS DELICIOUS. All eaten under stained glass flowers designed to make you feel like you're Alice's height, in the garden.

At this point they had cancled the fireworks due to rain, as well as the "Banzai! Villians!" parade, so we decided to call it a night, as Lauren was about ready to die. We grabbed our stuff out the lockers, and headed for the train.

And then we got lost in Tokyo Station.

Partially, this is because I let Lauren do all the planning, so I actuallyhad no idea where we were going. So when she was getting ready to pass out on her feet, and couldn't remember if we were supposed to head to Shinjuku or Ginza, and what subway we took to GET there, I couldn't help at all. Eventually, I convinced her to ask someone for directions because quite frankly, I was getting tired (and cold, and achey, and wet) too, and I couldn't ask because I didn't know where we were going.

Turns out we were going go Ginza. We transfered at Ginza and headed to Roppongi, which is a kiiiinda seedy part of Tokyo. In that it's about what you'd find, like, in Times Square of New York: Trash on the streets, and... well. Just looking like a city. I was excited to get in and away from the Jamacian Hosts, plus: CAPSUL HOTEL. Ever since I first went to Japan in middle school, I have wanted to STAY in a capsul hotel.

Well... it turns out that it's not a REAL capsul hotel. Sexisim, like Racesim, is still pretty rampent in Japan, and women just don't GET capsul hotels. But this was as close as I could get and GOSH DARNIT, I'll take it. Lauren was all about the "Plus, it has an attached onsen" but... It was just your pretty basic standard public bath. I mean- I love public baths, the're awesome, but when someone says "onsen" I'm thinking NATURAL hot spring. But then, maybe I have my termenology wrong. Regardless, AWESOME hot water to relax the chill or the rain away, and then falling into my capsul at 11.

We had decided to get up at 7, and try to make the park by 8, to hopefully beat some of the lines. This... almost worked. We ended up making it by about 8:30. We had planned, on the train, useing some maps I picked up on the way out, how our morning was to go. Once in side the gate, we split up. She, to go buy one thing, me to buy a collectiable Disney Dream Key: Halloween Edition.

Because they're SEXY, that's why.

I should not have been surprised when there was already a line. Lauren finished her shopping first, and came to talk to me in line. We agreed that she should go start standing in the NEXT line, and I'd join her once I had my key. So she was off. Towards the front of the line, I was given a clip board. This was unexpected, as- why? I just wanted to buy a key O_o. The cast member pointed out to me then, that the keys were customizable, up to 11 letters :D

Crap. Time to think fast of what I want my key to say.

I came up with "SkeletonKey" because it seemed like the least retarded option at the time. I also had to decide what ... "teeth" I wanted on it? You know- the part of the key that makes it the key? I could get the spider design, the spider web design, or the spider with a spiderweb design. It should come as no surprise to anyone, that I opted for all 3.

At the front, they checked my order, and totaled up the cost, and I paied. They then gave me a recepit to come back later and pick up my customized key! 12:25. I did a quick buzz of the shops, as Lauren had texted me to say our next line was 130 minutes, and I figured: what the hell, I have time. I couldn't find what I was looking for, though, so I went to join her.

We were standing in line, in a light drizzle, to get our pictures taken with Micky. This is what Lauren wanted to do. This was her "MUST DO," and as we had stood in an equally long line for the Haunted Mansion yesterday, for my "MUST DO" I was only too happy to oblige her. Plus- I've never met Micky before u.u

the line went past the same place we had had lunch the day before. I had wanted to go to Cafe Orleans for breakfast today, but it was all the way on the other side of the park, so while I held our spot in line, she ran off to stand in the shorter line for food.

Plus: we had both decided, since yesterday, that we DID want the collectable lunchboxes you could get there. I got a Donald. She bought Minnie. Donald is INFANTLY more cute than Minnie. His lunch box has duck feet.

DUCK FEET.

Anyway. Everyone else in line was toatally jealous of our hot frenchfries and (kinda edible, but mostlynot) Bologny sandwhiches on pumpkin bread. Mostly because they were HOT, and no-one in this line had any body heat left at all.

Micky's house was cool, and fun to see, though... unheated. <.> There was finally some heat to be had while we waited in the "movie barn" for our turn to go in and see the King. it was fun to watch the old Disney Cartoons in Japanese, if not a little bit trippy.

It was surprisingly giddy-making, meeting Micky. I mean- I know I know... it's a chick in a costume. But FUCK THAT. IT'S MICKY. And I got my picture taken with him. While I was wearing a stupid/AWESOME hat

I FUCKING LOVE DISNEY LAND.

So yes.

YES.

Soooooo very... just. I love Disney. o.o

So... after that, we started heading towards Adventure land, to get me some crepes, but we pasted Pinochio:s ride, and the line was sooo short, we decided to do that instead. The timing was perfect, because right when we got out, the parade, "Re Villains" was starting again. I insisted that we watch, because- goddamnit, I wanted to see the Villians!

Well, much to my delight, this time we DID get to see the villians! We were positioned at the very end of the parade, so we could only see Frolo and Hades, but still- COOL. And I was glad to be able to say "SEE! I wasn't making it up!" To Lauren.

After that, some of the lines were shorter, so we hopped into the Thunder mountain Ride, which was a quick 80 minutes. This put me waay over due to pick up my Key, but... whatever. RIDE. SHORT LINE. It was kinda a suck wait though, because 80 minutes is just SHORT enough that in comparison to the 130 minute lines we'd been waiting in we were like "HELL YES" but still WAY LONGER than we wanted to wait. The ride was good though. I dared Lauren to keep her hands up in the "Peice" sign you see all the Japanese people do in photos for the entire ride, but they never took our picture, so I don't have awesome proof. Awww.

After that we split up again, she to find a bathroom and an ATM, myself to pick up my key.I was.... surprised and a little bit dissapointed when I did. First of all, theydid not assemble the keyfor me, as I thought they would. They simply put all the peices into little bags, so I could do it myself.
Second, I misunderstood the order form. They told me I had 11 spaces for custimization, and then over here, asked what key teeth I wanted.
Welll, that's not quite right. Had I been THINKING, I probably could have figured this out on my own, but CLEARLY: I WAS NOT. You have 11 spaces for custimiztion PERIOD. each set of key teeth takes up 3, and each letter takes up 1. So with my customized word "SkeletonKey" and all three key-teeth, I have... 20? Which sooo does not fit. SADNESS. However, I didn't discover this until LATER, going home on the train. So gettign a head of myself. Lauren texted me to say she hand't found the ATM, but had found and bought a Stitch popcorn bucket (which she had really wanted) as well as Cafe Orleans, which I still wanted to go to. On my way over to meet her, I found the ATM, so I found her, we went back, ATMed our selves up, then enjoyed some nice crepes.

We were both starting to get a bit tired, so we decided to finish our shopping at this time, poping in and out of shops to spend way too much money. There was not NEAR enough NBC material, despite the fact that it was halloween, and everything was decked out like NBC. Still. I got a new NBC towel (which I've been needing), a new NBC hoodie, a new NBC t-shirt, and an NBC keychain flashlight. Also: Cookies in an NBC tin.

I like the NBC. :B

While we were heading back to watch the parade (again), we accidentially ran into Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip in this little side path with practically NO people on it. Up until this point, we had been shoved out of getting our picture with Pooh, Max, Pluto, and Cinderella, so we were ALL over this. They were waltzing (ZOMG SO AWESOME), and some old Japanese woman came over and pulled them appart so she could get her picture taken with them. Prince Phillip (who, along with Princess Aurora, was white), without missing a beat, smiled broadly and kindly said "Oh, thankyou so much for interupting us!" She of course, understood none of it, but he was smiling, so she was happy. Lauren and I almost died of laughter. There was a line forming behind us, as I wanted to get seats, and my camera was dying so Lauren got her picture taken with the pretty pretty people, and then we said thankyou and happy halloween before going to line up for the parade. We each wanted to see different villians, so we split up, and placed ourselves according to where we thought we would be able to see them best on the route.

I ended up being one float off. I wanted to see Ursula (who took over Micky's float) but ended up infront of Captain Hook (who took over Lilo and Stitch's float). Still. I could SEE Ursula from where I was, so it wasn't a loss. I also got to see Malificient. Awwwwwwwwwesome.

The parade moved on, and we followed it, trying to get to the door, as we had to head home, but then- they did the villian attack again! Just like how I had assumed they would the day before! Right in front of where we had been sitting the day before, in fact. I have no idea why they didn't repeat it the previous day, but did on this day, but regardless, I got to see the Queen of Hearts, and the Wicked Queen on this last go round.

We then headed to the exit, picking up our stuff from the locker and stopping to paruese one last shop before getting on the train. We were exhausted, but SO HAPPY. Yet- SO NOT HAPPY to be leaving.

At Tokyo, she got the express to Nagoya, while I was stuck on the local to hit Toyohashi. It was on this train ride I discovered my Key-error. Oh well though. It can still say "Skeleton" and fit ONE set of teeth if I want, or have my initials and all 3 key teeth, so I've got options.

I finally made it home around 9:15 or so, and had to go shopping for halloween candy for Monday's lessons (which were cancled when I arrived here, hurr hurr hurr). But. Overall...

BEST MOST AWESOME WEEKENED EVAR

Deleating the fuck out of some of my old RP journals, because they're old and full of such fail it brings me pain to think on them. Guh. Marsden Moodswings. *THUMBS UP*

1. What's the first word that comes to mind when you think of me?
2. Go to http://images.google.com/ and search for that word.
3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word).
4. Put this in your own blog so that I can do the same.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Probably shouldn't take this test while I'm PMSing but OH WELL

Your result for The Personality Defect Test...

Sociopath

You are 71% Rational, 14% Extroverted, 86% Brutal, and 71% Arrogant.

You are the Sociopath! As a result of your cold, calculating rationality, your introversion (and ability to keep quiet), your brutality, and your arrogance, you would make a very cunning serial killer. You are confident and capable of social interaction, but you prefer the silence of dead bodies to the loud, twittering nitwits you normally encounter in your daily life. You care very little for the feelings of others, possibly because you are not a very emotional person. You are also very calculating and intelligent, making you a perfect criminal mastermind. Also, you are a very arrogant person, tending to see yourself as better than others, providing you with a strong ability to perceive others as weak little animals, so tiny and small. You take great pleasure in the misery of others, and there is nothing sweeter to you than the sweet glory of using someone else's shattered failure to project yourself to success. Except sugar. That just may be sweeter. In short, your personality defect is the fact that you could easily be a sociopath, because you are calculating, unemotional, brutal, and arrogant. Please don't kill me for writing mean things about you! I have a 101 mile-long knife! Don't make me use it!

To put it less negatively:

1. You are more RATIONAL than intuitive.

2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted.

3. You are more BRUTAL than gentle.

4. You are more ARROGANT than humble.

Compatibility:

Your exact opposite is the Hippie.

Other personalities you would probably get along with are the Spiteful Loner, the Smartass, and the Capitalist Pig.

*

*

If you scored near fifty percent for a certain trait (42%-58%), you could very well go either way. For example, someone with 42% Extroversion is slightly leaning towards being an introvert, but is close enough to being an extrovert to be classified that way as well. Below is a list of the other personality types so that you can determine which other possible categories you may fill if you scored near fifty percent for certain traits.

The other personality types:

The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Schoolyard Bully: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Class Clown: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Robot: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Haughty Intellectual: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Spiteful Loner: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Sociopath: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hand-Raiser: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Braggart: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Capitalist Pig: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Smartass: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

Be sure to take my Sublime Philosophical Crap Test I enjoy science, philosophy, and fart jokes and water balloons, not necessarily in that order.
Because I sorta enjoy being a bitch >.>

Outsiders can't see the comments, as the board is locked to non-members, but I WANTED TO SHARE MY SRRS BSSNS WIF PEEPUL

CountryboyzcanSurvive
  What's your strangest local food?
So this may be rigged since I know the inaka folks eat some weird stuff...But what's the craziest thing you have eaten either at schools, or in your area???

Today I ate soy sauce boiled silkworms...I had grasshoppers a few months ago....

anyone else?

dezzalarsen
Re: What's your strangest local food?
I love a good old kansas testicle festival, thats bull fries!!! calf fries or mountain oysters are ok too, but you can not beet a bull for size.

I think eating a one ton animals balls is much more strange than the bees, hornets, grasshoppers, beetles, bug larvea, raw horse, jellyfish, and whale I have eaten in japan.

yes...the whale meat and bee larvea have both been in my school lunch.

set
Re: What's your strangest local food?
Excuse me? "Kansas" testicle festival? Do mine ears deceive me? Montana is the home of the REAL testicle festival, Rocky Mountain oysters and all, good sir. Just an hour and a half west of where I live u.u

dezzalarsen
Re: What's your strangest local food?
you are too close to canada to count, eh.

set
Re: What's your strangest local food?
Pssh. Do a google search. How many of the front page links are for Kansas? Oh that's right, none. Even Californa got in before Kansas on the good ol' bull-ball chomping action before boring li'l Kansas. ... Though one of those links may be for Cancer Awareness.

... Now I'm afraid of what the school netnanies are going to think of me for googling that XD

dezzalarsen
Re: What's your strangest local food?
I am not talking about tourism,
but real....real cowboys eating bull fries, calf fries are for kids.

at the age of 13 I castrated 150 head of cattle a year with my father and the cattle owner, the whole time I was chewing skoal, spit. and drinking beer.

We eat them with some more beers, and fed the small ones, raw, to the 3 pit bulls.

That is kansas, maybe not an internet event, just inaka cowoys, eating.

I tip my hat,
in montana-canada, the have great tourist events for eating testicles,

in Kansas, it is a part of life.

As all kansans know the best things in life cant be googled, that shit is for city folk.

set
Re: What's your strangest local food?
lol, for a second there, I thought you were serious. Then I realized no-one could possibly be THAT uninformed. Funny!

I'm sure your Kansas "cowboys" are very cute and all, but when it comes to farming and ranching, Montana is where it's at. Our men are men, and Idaho is scared.

Montana and Kansas are similar in that most people just want to drive the hell through and not stop. It would appear, though, that poor Kansas hasn't figured out how to fleece those few coasters coming through. Don't get all up tight about it though, I'm sure you would have thought of doing it too, if ... well ... why HAVEN'T you thought of doing it? 9.9

And as for google... well, much like the evangelicals and evolution, just because you SAY it can't be so, don't mean it aint.

YAY IMMA BITCH XD

phone etiquite

Sooooooooooo night before last. I'm in bed. I'm wrapped up in my blankets. I'm sleeping. I'm having good dreams. All is well.

Until all of a sudden my cell phone goes off.

Now, I use my cell phone as an alarm clock, so yeah, I wake up when it goes off. Only it's still freaking dark. "What the heck is going on," I wonder to myself. Checking the phone, I see that I've received a text. Also that it's 1:44 AM.

This had better be one freakin' important text.

I flip open my phone to see it's from Ernesta, the guy who is ALWAYS late to our monthly meetings. His oh-so-important-must-go-out-now-cannot-possibly-wait-until-morning text?

Fromernesta
Date14.10 1:44am
__________________________
I will definately be coming to the dinner.

The dinner in question being a little night out Justin, another AET is holding in Toyohashi tonight. Captain Manners here decided that EVERYONE simply MUST KNOW that he was coming, so hit "reply to all" at two in the freaking morning.

Now, I was pissed. Normally, I'd be like "whaaaatever," and been ANNOYED AS HELL, but not pissed. But I had Fukue the next morning. The school that takes for freaking EVER to get to, so I have to get up EXTRA EARLY to make it on time. So yeah. I'm pissed.

So I text him back.

FromBlaze
Date14.10 1:51am
__________________________
what the fuck makes you think 2 am is an ok time to send a general, non emdrgency text?! i have work in the morning for fucksake

It is hard to type angrily on a cellphone pad. >.> also: TWO IN THE FREAKING MORNING. Then, a minute later-

Fromernesta
Date14.10 1:52am
__________________________
Which jackass is this? Sorry dude dudette. Sorry for disturbing your dick pulling fest.

... Oh it is OOOOHN. Lucky for Manners McGee here it was TWO IN THE MORNING and I wanted MORE to go back to sleep than I did to get into a bitch fest. Also, I don't have his NUMBER, just his text address, so I couldn't just call and scream at him, which is WHAT I WANTED TO DO. Still. I was now angry, so it took me for freaking EVER to calm down and go back to sleep. The next day I was tired as hell.

So! Today, when I had some free time, I composed this, and sent it off:

FromBlaze
Date15.10 10:00am
__________________________
ohhh, good on you! not only are you messaging people with your oh so URGENT message at ass o'clock in the mornign, you're doing it to people you dont even know. classy. really, well done.
sarcasm asside for the moment, basic phone manners dictate that its simply not polite to call after a certain time, as most people dont like or react well to such an awakening. now, i can see how you could have lost track of the time when you ssent th einitial text. god knows thta if i didnt have work, i'd still be up and abotu at that hour. but i do have work. so after you received my admittedly cranky as hell responce, YOUR responce should have been an appology, or, better yet, nothign at all.
in summary, have some consideration, and if you're called on your douche behaviour, man up and appologize. otherwise stfu

LONGEST. TEXT. EVAR. It's really amazing the amount of effort I'll put into being pissy.
Now. "appropriate calling hours" vary from person to person. I know this. At home, I have friends who wouldn't get off work until 11:00 at night, so I felt perfectly fine calling their cell at 11:30. I would NOT call their house phone, because I wouldn't want to wake everyone ELSE up. I also have friends I know who like to sleep in. So I know that generally, I shouldn't call before 11:00, as this would wake them up. And NO ONE likes to be woken up.

Just because it's a text and not a voice call doesn't make it ok. Would a person CALL all the people invited to this party at 2am to say "HEY GUYZ! AHM COMMIN TOO"? No. Because they'd get a bunch of angry teachers yelling at them.

RAWR.

I fully expect another douche text back from him. WE WILL SEE.
EDIT I WAS RIGHT.
Typhoonagator

So for those who hadn't heard, or did not know, there was a huge freakin typhoon in Japan yesterady. It was hella intense. I've been in Japan for about 4 other typhoons, but I've never been directly UNDER one before. Aditionally, this is the largest typhoon they've had in like... 10 years. People were nuts.

but yeah. I surived unscathed, as did my appartment, excepting the fine covering of dirt now plastered to it. You would think with all that rain it would have been washed shiney and clean, but this is apparently wrong. Oh well.

Still alive!

I liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive

... and I aaaaaaaaaaache. But more on that later.

So Mr.FixIt Felix from Kyoto FINALLY returned my computer. Only he wasn't so much "Mr.FixIt" as "Mr.Not Fix It But Keep It For Two Weeks Anyway And Then Charge $57 And Return It Late." I am, as they say, less than amused. I'm going to have to get some sort of new... computer-esq thing to tied me over the next 10 months until I return to Amurika. I've looked into the Netbooks and the like, and while I applaud the idea behind them, I sort of want to punch whoever came up with the name "Netbook." Rubs me the wrong way, I don't know why. Regardless, I'm going to see if I can't get something a little more substantial, for little money. HAH. Content and Good Pricing? Next thing you know, I'll be wanting Quality, too! Ho ho. I'm so funny.

Whilest my laptop was MIA thanks to the Douchenozzle in Kyoto, I attempted to attend the Tokyo Game Show. I really did. I tried hard. I was supposed to cosplay with some friends, which I've never done before, and was excited for. The only problem is, at that time, I haddn't finished gathering the peices for my costume. Aaaand I'm sort of of the oppinion that you should either look good while cosplaying or JUST NOT DO IT. This is a total bandersnatch of an oppinion, as I realize, so long as people are having fun, it's ok. But I am, never the less, a bandersnatch who does not want to see your 12-cent last minute Gambit costume. PUT SOME FREAKIN EFFORT INTO IT. UGH. Er. But I digress. I didn't want to cosplay unless I had my entire outfit. I was ALMOST there, but I didn't have my hoop skirt yet. and without the hoop skirt... well the outfit looked kinda shitty. I was gettign worried, as it was SUPPOSED to have arrived on the 23, but had not... You know what, this story is convoluted, and needs to be told in bullet style.

I had originally intended my outfit to only be for Halloween.

My friends convinced me to try cosplaying with them, as I was going as a video game character, and this was a video game con.

I orderd everything WELL in advance, and asked that it arrive by the 23 at the laitest, as the Tokyo Game Show was on the 26th, and I wanted to have a little buffer time in the shipping.

Ho ho, little did I know, the 21-23 was Silverweek, aaand there was no mail those days. I figured "that's cool, I'll probably have a Package Slip from the postoffice in my box onthe 24th

I did! But, the 24th was also a Thursday, and I was meeting Jude for dinner that night, so I didn't have time to go to the post office to pick up my package, having to run to Nagoya. "That's ok," I thought "I'll pick it up tomorrow."

The next day (25th, for those of you keeping track), I went to the post office to pick up my package. ... Never have I been more dissapointed to see a package from my mother. It was a great package! And I love my mother, and her packages! But it was NOT what I was expecting.

In order to make it to the TGS, I would have to leave my home by 9:30 at the laitest. As mail is delivered in the afternoon, EVEN if the package showed up the next day, it would still be too late. Cosplay was out.

That night, as I was intending to get a jump on the travling, I went to bed early.

One of the other girls attending the con with us sent a group text to everyone, saying, and I quote, "Hey guys! Will try to meet you for lunch! See u all tomorrow!" When was this VASTLY IMPORTANT emergency message sent? 2:08 AM. I know I, for one, was laying awake, unable to sleep, not knowing this information. I was SO GLAD I wasn't asleep to be woken up by this AMAZING and INFORMATIVE text.

Oh wait.

Theeen, at 6:45, when I was still asleep, I got ANOTHER text, from The Boy. "hey what time are you coming? do you want to meet at the convention or the station? ^_~" This was at least a time-relevent question, so it was more forgivable, but I was still pretty pissed.

Eventually I got up on my own. I dressed, packed, and headed out the door. I didn't stop for breakfast, as we were all going to meet for Lunch.

I ended up on the local Shinkansen. This is no-one's fault but my own, but it still sucked.

Upon ariving at Tokyo station at 12:30, I realized that the "quick subway" to the convention I had been told about was ACTUALLY another 38 minute train ride. We were supposed to meet for lunch at 12:30. Whups.

I texted Justin to let him know I was running late. He said not to worry. I rode the train.

Upon arriving at the designated train station, I became lost in a croud of conventioneers. I did my best to follow the crowd to the convention hall as I had been instructed, but the crowd kept leading me to the wrong goddamn buildings.

I texted Justin to ask where everyone was. He said everyone else was still eating, but that he and the girls were off to start cosplaying, so I'd have to text TheBoy for details. Joy.

Texted TheBoy, asking where he was. He responded with, and again, I quote, "everyone is in teh cafetory[sic] on the 2nd floor you have to get your hand stamped." I texted him again "2nd floor of what building?"

10 minutes later, I texted him AGAIN, "Seriously, what building?"

He responds, "nevermind they allready left to get dressed Hide and I are near the Koei both (near the Sega booth)". Again. NOT TELLING ME WHAT FREAKING BUILDING. and GOD FORBID he just stay still for 15 minutes while I try and FIND HIM.

I eventually mannage to find the building but I cannot, Cannot, CANNOT find the door in. This, is fucking ridiculous. I can find DOZENS of doors for RE-entry, for the people who've already gotten their hands stamped and shit, but I CANNOT find the "Get your hand stamped and pay your money here" area.

I am tired from having been woken up twice while sleeping. I am hungry because assholes couldn't wait for me in the "Cafetory" (which I DID eventually find, but not until everyone else had already left, thanks, guys). And I am dissapointed, because I had thought I could play dressup, and NOPE. I'm frustrated, because I'm lost in a forign place, and none of my friends care enough to say "Wait there, we'll come get you." And I'm sort of on an emotional edge ANYWAY from having learned two days before that my last living grandparent has died.

I decide, "fuck this" and go home.

All in all, I spend 8 hours traveling, I don't get breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and my laptop, which was supposed to have arrived back 3 days ago, is still not back when I get home.

THE END.

In the much more GOOD vein of story telling, yesterday was the Nagoya Swings day in the park. This event had ORIGINALLY been schedualed for the 27th... during which I was supposed to have been in Tokyo for the Tokyo game show. The day before the show, however, they changed the date to Oct 4th. MUCH TO MY DELIGHT.

It was a HUGE success. I brought Takako, my favourite teacher, and also invited Haruka from the Tahara Matsuri. We had PERFECT, beautiful weather, and a bbq. We held the event in Shonai park in Nagoya, which I had never been to before, but was absolutely GEORGOUS. Sculpture, Tree, Flower and Fountain gardens, it cut out from the city and just- was. It's hard to describe. It didn't feel like Japan or even a CITY at all. It was beautiful. We had about 19 women and maybe 14 men show up. Myself, and three other follows from the Nagoya Swings group switched to leads, so we had almost an equal ratio. I danced from 1:30 until 6:30. It. Was. AMAZING. I had such a good time. I forgot to put on sun screne, though, so now I'm a slight tanish-pink colour. Dammit. That won't go with my halloween costume at all. Still! Great movie, good food, fun times.

By the time I left, the sun was down, and this big, beautiful full harvest moon had risen. I said my goodbyes, and headed back towards the subway, walking through the park by myself. Probably dangerous, but eh. Beautiful and peaceful and PERFECT. It honestly felt like a fairy tale. Between the moon, the miticulously cared for grounds, and the isolation, I just wanted it to last forever.

Except I was about ready to drop from exhaustion, having danced for abotu 6 hours.

Today I'm back at work. I was expecting to have to teach lessons (Booo), but it turns out that due to the poor weather on Friday (that I was unaware of, as I slept through, haha, another story) today's school is holding their Sports Day today. What fun!

In parting, I give you the world's happiest bird
<lj-embed id="43" />

So. Today is a national holliday, but I had to come into work anyway, as my base school decided that they were going to have their school festival today. Apparently we're going to have a make-up holliday, but I'm betting dollars to donuts that day isn't on a day I actually COME to this school. If it weren't for the fact that my computer is currently MIA I'd be pissed. As is, it just means I get internet access.

this year's festival was a lot more fun than last years. Partially because there's not a typhoon, and partially because I feel a little better about walking around by myself. Watching today's events, I learned that all my school's cheerleaders are boys (have no idea how common this is). I had lunch, parused the food stalls, watched the band perform, and went through 2-5's haunted house. Unfortunately the effect was slightly lost on me, as I can't read, and there was a LOT of writing in the house. Still- awesome work. At one point, I had to get down on my hands and knees and crawl through. The house would totally not fly with the fire marshals in Helena, but luckily for them, they didn't have to deal with anything like that. It was spooky, I shreaked, all that jazz.

I also found one of those giant spiders, again, but this one was dead. I took it's picture.

and speaking of pictures, I figured out what those fireworks are called. They're called tezutsu. And they are insane.

... You do know those EXPLODE, right?

So the last two days have been the Tahara Matsuri. Last year, I remember all the explosions, but I was still in my "TOO TERRIFIED TO LEAVE THE APPARTMENT" mode. This year, I was not only without my computer, but I was MAKING CUPCAKES, so I was leaving the appartment periodically.

I will preface this all with saying I do not know WHY Japanese people like to fire fireworks during the day. I assume they just like the noise.

So Saturday, I'm hanging my laundry out for the spiders to infest, when a local float comes by, being pulled by the fathers and grandfathers of the neighborhood, to the crys of "Washou! Washou!" I still don't know what this means. It Idled at the base of the street, where my apartment is, so I got to watch them for a bit, before they started up the hill. First came the runners to make sure the street was clear, with little bells and paper flowers. Then the float itself, not as massive as the ones from Fukuoka, but still, an impressive thing to be carying around on your back. Then more bells and flowers. Then a guy with a recycle bag, picking up all the dropped beer cans (and there were plenty). Then a truck carrying MORE beer. Then another truck full of beer. Then a guy with some flowers.

I was amused.

The explosions continued all morning. Eventually I headed out with the goal in mind of finding myself some cupcake goods. Becasue I NEEDED to make cupcakes. Heading out along my normal route, I was suddenly stopped by a dancing gathering being held in the middle of the street, blocking my passage. There was a large floar (this one on wheels) copious amounts of alcohol, and people in traditional dress from elementary schoolers to grandparents (only the older folks were drinking... and lets be honest, mostly the college age+ boys). I don't know how everyone all knew the moves to the dances. A song would start, and two or more people would climb up onto the float, and lead the dance. Everyone around would dance along. Some of the dances were cute (the kids) some were funny (the drunk college boys), but I was consistantly o.o at the fact that EVERYONE knew all the dance moves even before the leaders started leading.

I was hanging out in the back, thinking I would just go around useing a longer walking route, when one of the college boys noticed me, and decided to talk to me in Japanese. I only understood maybe 1/8 of what he was saying, but I was quickly ushered into the crowd, and introduced to friends, before he went off to dance.

Then, at some unseen sign, the party moved on. The drunk men got into place, and hauled the party further up the road, everyone following along.

Such a strange land I live in.

The next day, I have made my cupcakes, to the sounds of more explosions. The cupcakes, btw, are freakin' awesome. I will post pictures later. I have Hip Hop at 5, so I braid my hair, and off I go. There are even MORE explosions today, and the town is FULL of people. It's crazy busy. CRAZY BUSY. Something's up. I don't know what, but something.

I get to hip hop, and we're dancing along fine (we had a 2 hour lesson combined with the advanced dancers for some reason, but it was fun), when all of a sudden, large explosions and clouds of smoke started coming from around the corner. I was a bit frightened, as it was still day, and that was a lot of smoke. But there was no screaming; just really, really loud explosions.

During the break, I headed over to see what was going on. It was just around the corner, and again- NOT DARK YET- so I could make my way through the croud to see.

So.

In America, we tend to have this attitude towards fire works: Light them, then get the hell away. Unless you're on Jackass, in which case, you put them in your butt, but that's not the majority. Most of us understand. Fireworks, while really pretty, are also very hot, and very explode-y.

Apparently we are pussys.

In Japan? They HOLD ON TO THEM.

I can't find any pictures, and I didn't have my camera, but I'll look for them later. But basically, picture a tube. something big enough that you have to wrap your arms around it, and brace your legs. You have to hug it to your body to get it to stand upright, and you let it sit against your thigh.

Now make that tube into the worlds biggest roman candle, and you have an idea of what these nut jobs were doing.

Apparently it's some sort of manhood ritual. Which- is probably because no woman is stupid enough to hold on to a LIT POWDER KEG.

They've been doing it for hundreds of years, so clearly they know what they're doing but MY GOD. THOSE THINGS EXPLODE. ITS ON FIRE. SPARKS. DEATH. EXPLODE.

All of this happeneing, I should mention, in the middle of town. None of this pansy "move it outside of town where nothing will burn down" business.

I decided, after hip hop to stick around to see the show which apparently officially started at 8. The town was full to the brim. I've never SEEN so many people. And here I am in my retarded dance clothes and hair. Hi! Being by myself, I was confident I could snag a spot in the front because I would take up so little space. I actually ended up sharing a blanket with two very friendly girls from Nagoya. I chatted with them in Japanese, and some English. They were great. Their friend was one of the guys holding the EXPLODING ROCKETS OF DEATH. He joined us later.

I had yakisoba and pinapple on a stick.

Everything is better on a stick. Especially if there are fireworks.

And MAN were there fireworks.

I understand why the Japanese call their fireworks "hanabi" which loosely translates as "fire flowers." A LOT of their fireworks actually DO look like flowers. And they're amazing. At one point the ENTIRE SKY was lit up. The Entire. Sky.

They almost hit an airplane. We're under the fly in route for Centrair, but that plane was flying low, anyway.

We were sitting so close there was ash falling on us. It was amazing.
